MUSCATINE, Iowa – June, 2007 – For The HON Company, environmental responsibility is a journey, not a destination. More than 60 years ago, the company crafted one of its first product lines – recipe boxes – out of recycled scrap metal. Today, the tradition of incorporating recycled content into product lines continues as the company introduces two new environmentally sustainable fabrics, Twigs™ and Asana™, for use on Initiate® panel systems.
Twigs, a 100-percent-recycled polyester fabric from Canadian textile manufacturer Victor Innovatex, provides a unique dimensional and textured interpretation of nature-inspired elements, delivering a refined, yet ethereal aesthetic. Its colorline, consisting of a range of updated neutrals, provides a sophisticated-yet-sustainable solution for use on Initiate panel systems.
New Asana fabric, a 100-percent Eco Intelligent® Polyester (EIP) panel fabric from Victor, is designed and manufactured for safe perpetual recycling. The fabric is Cradle-to-Cradle Gold certified by MBDC, meaning that materials are perpetually circulated in a closed-loop system of manufacture, reuse and recovery, maintaining value through many product life cycles. Available in a range of colors for use on Initiate panels, Asana features a refined, structured pattern with an interesting surface texture.
“When you combine one of these new fabrics with our Initiate panel system featuring new Nature Core agri-fiber panel substrate, you get a complete system that’s environmentally preferential,” said Mindy Billingsley, product business manager / environmental and sustainable initiatives for The HON Company. “These recycled fabrics, as well as Nature Core, echo our founders ‘waste not, want not,’ philosophy, which remains an integral part of our corporate DNA 60 years later. Going green isn’t trendy. It’s part of our culture. It’s the way we have always done business.”
