The Boys & Girls Club of central Ohio’s mission is straightforward: “To enable young people to reach their full potential.” But the road to encouraging young minds to embrace healthy and happy futures is one that requires thoughtful navigation and a firm focus on physical fitness, ongoing education, mental well-being, and personal safety. For the Milo-Grogan Clubhouse, that foundation had to be built from the ground up—literally. Thanks to generous community partners, the 65-yearold structure was demolished in October 2020 to make room for a new facility designed to enrich the lives of both the young people and hard-working employees who make daily use of the organization’s multifaceted programs. With $15.3 million in raised funds, the ‘Investing in Great Futures Comprehensive Campaign’ was ready to break ground on a relocated site that would service the community for decades to come.
The newly-minted Champion Companies Milo-Grogan Clubhouse is now a beacon for neighborhood pride and iconic development. With a shared goal of incorporating a welcoming and comfortable residential aesthetic combined with commonsense functionality, HON and Columbus, OH-based Dupler Office teamed up to populate the unique environment with durable, multi-purpose seating, tables, and storage. The result was a warm, colorful communal entity designed to bring people together, foster a sense of belonging, and provide kinesthetic learning opportunities for children of all abilities.
“My hope is that when young people walk through the these doors, they will think ‘the community came together to build this club for me’ and feel a sense of hope and belonging in the space.”
