WHAT’S “NEWS” AT HON

HON’s perspective on the latest news and trends within the workplace
(MUSCATINE, IOWA – April 2, 2015) – As a leading designer and manufacturer of workplace furniture, The HON Company continues to keep an eye on the latest news and developments within the industry to ensure they are creating product solutions that meet the needs of customers.

“At HON, we are in the business of long-term solutions,” says Aaron Finn, HON vice president, marketing. “We believe delivering value will always win the race and we forecast true needs, not trends. But, we also understand the importance of knowing what changes are taking place within our industry and how they can impact our business. What’s “News” was created to communicate the latest news and trends that we, as a company see, along with how we’re applying them to better serve our customers.”
WORKPLACE “NEWS”
MILLENNIALS ARE UNCHAINED AND ON THE MOVE, ARE THEIR WORKSPACES?
Shift, a macrotrend identified by Stylus points out that wireless tech has unchained workers from their desks; they can work from home, or from anywhere in the world, or straddle several locations.

Paired with high unemployment rates and declining home ownership among millennials – a generation of renters who will always be on the move – Shift focuses on design that is small, light and easy to move.

Flock® is designed to give users a place to get away from their workstation. Flock’s collection of tables, seating, ottomans and lighting are modular elements that allow people to work and connect virtually anywhere.

“Millennials are not tethered to their desk, they have the flexibility to move around in a modern office setting and work in places you weren’t able to work in previously—cafés, commons, conference areas,” says Chad Johnson, HON director of brand, communications and content. “Flock’s family of products is designed to work together to turn any space into a social, collaborative, work area.”
AMBIENT NOISE PROVIDES THE CREATIVE SWEET SPOT
A recent Fast Company article took an in-depth look at how music can affect productivity. It states that for repetitive tasks and escaping a noisy workplace music can improve productivity, but when trying to learn new information music interferes with learning and analyzing data. It’s argued that it perhaps isn’t the background noise of the music itself, but rather the improved mood that your favorite music creates that is the source of this bump in productivity. According to Fast Company, the best options for listening while working are ambient noise, classical, and music without lyrics.

Employees throughout HON helped compile this HON Workday playlist – a collection of songs that improve their mood and keep them motivated.
